Hiring Team
Northwind Traders

Dear Hiring Team:

I’m applying for the Financial Analyst role on Northwind’s FP&A team. At Contoso I run the monthly close for three regional sales teams and own the quarterly forecast model the CFO reviews.

Last year I rebuilt the close checklist and moved the account reconciliations into SQL. Close time went from 9 days to 4.

Your posting says the team is moving from spreadsheet forecasts to a driver-based model. I built Contoso’s first driver-based revenue forecast in 2024, and it’s the work I want to keep doing.

I’d welcome the chance to talk about the planning model and where my close work could help. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Jordan Ellis

How it’s written

One job, one letter, from what you’ve done.

A cover letter’s one job is to make the reader open your resume. So it is not a summary of it: it picks the one or two examples that answer what this posting asks for, and tells them properly. The structure is the one university career offices teach, Harvard’s among them.

  1. 01

Tick the box when you tailor

Paste the job link, tick “Also write a cover letter” and pick a tone. Already have a tailored copy? Write the letter from its page.

  2. 02

Written from your resume and the posting

The role and why you fit, your strongest example for what the posting needs most, why this employer in the posting’s own words, then a short close.

  3. 03

    Checked before you read it

Numbers are checked against your resume and names against the resume and posting. A sentence that fails is removed, and the letter says how many were.

What it won’t write

The letter you sign shouldn’t claim more than you did.

Checked in code, on every letter

  • A number that appears nowhere on your resume
  • An employer, school, tool or product named in neither your resume nor the posting
  • A tool or credential the posting asks for that your resume doesn’t show

A sentence that fails is removed, and the letter tells you how many were.

Ruled out in how it’s written

  • A total worked out from your dates, like “five years of experience”
  • “I am writing to express my interest”
  • “Passionate”, “results-driven”, “team player”, “proven track record”
  • A referral, a lifelong interest or a relocation you never mentioned
  • Exclamation marks, em dashes and rhetorical questions

The writer is told never to use these. Read it before you send it anyway.

After it’s written

FAQ

Questions about letters.

Tailoring, pricing and privacy are on the main FAQ.

Is the cover letter generator free?
Yes: 5 cover letters a month on the free plan, with no card. They are counted separately from AI tailors. Rewriting a letter in another tone or length is free too, up to five times per letter, and editing the words yourself is never metered. Pro raises the monthly allowance.
Do I need to tailor my resume first?
Yes. A letter is written for a tailored copy of your resume, because that copy is what tells it which job it is for and what to argue from. Tick “Also write a cover letter” when you tailor, or write it later from the copy’s page. The tailor uses one of your 5 tailors and the letter one of your 5 cover letters.
Will it make things up about me?
Each sentence is tagged with the resume or posting line it rests on. Before you see the letter, every number in it is checked against your resume, every name against your resume and the posting, and named tools or credentials the posting wants but your resume doesn’t show are caught. A sentence that still fails after one repair is removed rather than shown to you, and the letter’s settings say how many were. The writer is also told never to stretch what you did, but read it before you send it. Edits you make yourself are your own words and are not checked.
Who is the letter addressed to?
If the posting names the hiring manager or recruiter, that person, but only when the name appears in the posting exactly as written. Otherwise “Dear Hiring Team:”, never “To whom it may concern”. You can type any name yourself, and it stays through rewrites.
Can I edit the letter?
Every paragraph. Click it on the page and type, drag paragraphs into another order, or reset one to what we wrote. A rewrite in another tone writes every paragraph again, so it asks before replacing your edits.
What formats can I download?
PDF, Word and plain text, each laid out as a business letter in your resume’s template, so the two read as a set. Or one PDF with the letter first and the resume after it, the order an employer reads them.
Does it send the letter for me?
No. TheEasyApply does not submit applications or contact employers on your behalf. You download the letter and send it the way the posting asks.

Your next application, with the letter to go with it.
